Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers look more carefully at customs, symbols, language, traditions or cultural objects, with a clear subject and a grounded point of view.
What to propose
Send a short outline of the subject, the question the piece will answer and why it matters to a general reader. Name the examples or contexts you would examine, and say what readers should understand differently by the end. Distinctive, focused ideas are more useful than broad surveys of a culture.
A good fit
We value precise explanation, readable prose and care with context. Pitches should distinguish an individual account from a general claim, avoid treating communities as uniform, and show how the writer would handle differing interpretations. Do not send confidential material or imply access to sources you do not have.
How to send a pitch
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then include your proposed title, outline and a brief description of your relevant perspective. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication; please wait for a response before sending a full draft.
