Honest Culture Journal

Editorial policy

Our aim is to make cultural subjects clear without making them smaller than they are. We use careful language, show how an interpretation is reached and correct the record when we get something wrong.

Accuracy and context

We check factual statements against appropriate sources before publication and take care with names, terminology and descriptions of cultural practices. We avoid presenting a single example as universal. Where accounts or interpretations differ, we describe the difference rather than smoothing it away. Articles explain what they can establish and where uncertainty remains.

Independence and corrections

Editorial decisions remain separate from commercial arrangements. A partner does not approve, edit or determine an editorial article. If a published piece contains a factual error, we review the report, correct the text where warranted and make the change clear to readers. Send correction details through the Contact page.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid or partner material is clearly identified as such, so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. We do not present a placement as an endorsement. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; when used, they are identified, and they are not offered as documentary evidence of a cultural practice or object.
